The Golden State Warriors could consider adding Randy Foye and Norris Cole in their star-studded roster as the team tries to fill out the remaining spots in their lineup.
The Warriors' successful attempt to become even more formidable for the next season is almost over, but two roster spots are still up for grabs. With the departure of key players in free agency, the Warriors should be looking to add proven veterans who can make an impact off the bench.
The Warriors did just that after signing David West and Zaza Pachulia to cheap deals, and bringing back Shaun Livingston, James Michael McAdoo and Ian Clark. But the Warriors could still elect to sign available free agents in the market, especially if those players could bring solid numbers playing in the second unit. According to CBS Sports' Zach Harper, two potential candidates who could receive minimum contracts with the Warriors are Randy Foye and Norris Cole.
Foye last played for the OKC Thunder after being traded by the Denver Nuggets, where the 32-year-old guard played for more than two seasons. Foye only averaged 5.6 points, while playing 21.2 minutes per game for the Thunder, but was effective playing backup role to Russell Westbrook.
Foye could bring the same role to the Warriors, but could be more utilized as another threat from the outside, being known as knockdown shooter before his decline in Denver.
"This is my favorite option for the Warriors if they can convince Foye to play for the minimum contract. There are still teams with cap space out there in need of a veteran guard and Foye fills that role perfectly," Harper noted.
On the other hand, two-time NBA champion Norris Cole would also be an impact player in the Warriors' bench backcourt consisting of Livingston, Clark and Patrick McCaw. Cole, who last played for the New Orleans Pelicans, averaging 10.6 points and 3.7 assists per game, could be a deadly two-way guard for the Warriors, adding to the team's list of versatile players.
"Two-time NBA champion Norris Cole could be a very savvy pickup for the Warriors if they convince him playing for the minimum could make him three-time NBA champion," Harper wrote.
It remains to be seen whether Foye and Cole would accept a minimum contract for a chance at winning a championship next season. But the Warriors should still consider them as possible options to replace their depleted reliable bench unit.
