Former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight Brock Lesnar put himself in line for a title shot after making a successful comeback at UFC 200. Lesnar ended his long hiatus with a bang, as he cruised to a unanimous decision win over Mark Hunt on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Following his victory, Lesnar, who sat out for almost five years before his fight against Hunt, is rumored to be in contention for a title shot against Stipe Miocic. When asked about the UFC rumors about a fight with Lesnar for the heavyweight title, Miocic said that he will not back down from the challenge.
"Yeah, whoever the UFC wants me to fight, I'm okay with that," Miocic told Cleveland.com. "I signed up for this, I know what I got myself into, so whoever they want me to fight, I'll fight."
Miocic, who owns a 15-2 mixed martial arts record, won the UFC heavyweight title via a first-round knockout victory against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 198 in May. But before thinking of a possible showdown with Lesnar, the 33-year-old needs to defend his title against Alistair Overeem at UFC 203 on Sept, 10 in Cleveland.
Lesnar unsure of UFC future
Meanwhile, Lesnar is unsure about his next fight in the Octagon. The 39-year-old surprisingly ended his sabbatical, which he said was a difficult decision to make. He is in contract with World Wrestling Entertainment, and fighting in the Octagon was a huge risk for his wrestling career.
Lesnar said that he decided to return to clear all doubts in his mind. But despite winning in his comeback fight, Lesnar is still unsure if he will return to UFC again. For now, he is focused on his WWE career, particularly on his upcoming fight against Randy Orton at SummerSlam 2016.
"I believe that my future is already laid out for the next month," Lesnar said in a press conference, ESPN reported. "I'm doing SummerSlam against Randy Orton, and once the dust settles, I'm not sure what I'm going to do."
Most analysts and fans believe, though, Lesnar will have another fight or two in the Octagon. Recent UFC rumors also suggest that WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon will likely allow that to happen, knowing that it could also help his company.
