Viewers of HBO's "Game of Thrones" may miss a familiar face when the fantasy series returns to the small screens with its Season 7 run. Michiel Huisman's participation in the series is still unclear after his character, Daario Naharis, was left in Meereen at the end of Season 6.
The 34-year-old Dutch actor has been one of the veteran cast members of "Game of Thrones," where he portrays the character of Daenerys Targaryen's (Emilia Clarke) advisor and enforcer, Daario. However, several fan theories suggest that it does not seem Huisman will be back for another season, though no official confirmation has been made yet.
The final episode of "Game of Thrones" Season 6, which aired on June 26, saw Daenerys breaking her ties with Daario at Tyrion Lannister's (Peter Dinklage) inciting, fearing that bringing a lover to Westeros would be a disadvantage to her cause. He was left by Daenerys to keep the peace in Slaver's Bay with his Second Sons host, as opposed to sailing alongside his queen to vanquish Westeros.
With the focus of "Game of Thrones" now shifting entirely to Westeros, it appears to be improbable that fans will still see Daario after his heartbreaking break-up with Daenerys. Huisman, however, pointed out in an interview with The Daily Beast that his character is still out there.
"I am disappointed," Huisman said when asked if he is disappointed he left without a major death scene. "But he's still out there, you know. It's a big world. He got left behind, but who knows?"
Huisman took over the role of Daario from guest star Ed Skrein, 33, who briefly portrayed the character in "Game of Thrones" Season 3. Originally a lieutenant in the Second Sons, Daario takes over the mercenary company after killing his superiors, Mero (Mark Killeen) and Prendahl na Ghezn (Ramon Tikaram).
After he made an alliance with Daenerys, Daario serves as her counselor and enforcer and eventually becomes her lover, as well. Described as a highly skilled and proficient warrior, it was revealed that Daario was the son of a prostitute in Tyrosh, who later sold him into slavery when he was twelve years of age.
"He's always told her that he is the son of a whore and he'd probably never be the king," said Huisman, referring to his character. "He never even wanted to be king. It's the last thing he wants."
Meanwhile, "Game of Thrones" showrunner D.B. Weiss and David Benioff revealed in a UFC podcast that the production of Season 7 will start later than anticipated. The showrunners said they do not have an air date yet.
