Despite leaving one of South Korea's top girl group, 2NE1, and pursuing her solo career, it seems that Minzy still has the support of her fans awaiting her debut as a solo artist.
While news is scarce about the next phase of Minzy's career, it seems that there has been a change of plans and the former 2NE1 maknae is prepping for her new album. After leaving YG Entertainment, Minzy went to Music Works.
According to SBS.com.au, a representative from the agency told Nate that Minzy was currently trying to decide on her solo debut concept. Moreover, the agency is not putting a deadline on Minzy's final word, so that she can make the right choice.
"We are currently requesting songs from composers and musicians, and working hard to find Minzy's own colour," said the source who added that "there isn't one exclusive, and we are looking at everything from dance, ballad and such," the rep said.
Following the announcement that former 2NE1 member Minzy is prepping for her solo career after signing with Music Works, new reports have revealed that the singer will kick things off by holding her very first solo fan meeting.
While no locations or schedules have been confirmed, Minzy's solo fan meeting is expected to be held between late-July to early-August.
Meanwhile, YG is preparing for a new generation of new girl group prompted by Minzy's departure from 2NE1. In an official statement from YG Entertainment, according to All Kpop, "We are sorry to inform the many 2NE1 fans who've waited so long. We are making an official announcement that 2NE1's maknae Minzy will no longer be a part of 2NE1."
"With the end of 2NE1's contract with YG coming up on May 5, 2016, we met with the 2NE1 members this past January to discuss their intentions about re-signing. However, Minzy expressed her intentions that were different from the group."
"The remaining three members have re-signed, and they're preparing for a new song release for this summer as 2NE1. We are not looking for an additional member to replace Minzy."
Minzy's departure is reportedly due to lack of solo activities during the hiatus. The 2NE1 maknae reportedly want to focus on other things. Minzy was 16 when she debuted under YG.
