HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones" confirmed its dominance on TV once again on July 14, Thursday, when the show's sixth season grabbed 23 Emmy nominations. While a slew of cast members got the nod for their acting talent, Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in the series, surprisingly failed to receive any nomination.
The nominations for "Game of Thrones" include the top honor of Outstanding Drama Series, a prize the show took home at last year's ceremony. The show had grabbed 12 honours in all, setting a new record.
The other nominations "Game of Thrones" got from the 68th Emmy Awards are Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series, Outstanding Costume for a Period Drama, Outstanding Direction and many more technical nominations. While Kit Harington and Peter Dinklage received the nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams were nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
Despite the host of Emmy nominations, fans were quick to notice the absence of Turner's name from the list. Her character, who was a broken woman at the start of Season 6, evolved as a strong woman as the season progressed and eventually pursuaded everyone to go into battle against Ramsay Bolton. Her famous monologue with Littlefinger telling him about her rape was appreciated a lot by the viewers.
By the end of "Game of Thrones" Season 6, Turner's character has risen up to the central role by becoming the head of her decimated family along with half-brother Jon Snow. Despite the snub, she appeared gracious as she took to Twitter to congratulate her fellow co-stars.
My big brother and my little sister did me proud today.
Last week, Turner was spotted at the British Summertime Festival in London's Hyde Park, where she looked world apart from her onscreen persona. The 20-year-old actress looked like a girl-next-door in her in light blue jeans and a casual navy sleeveless T-shirt by Tommy Hilfiger, Daily Mail reported.
