After the appearance of seven kingdoms and seven gods, "Game of Thrones" Season 7 has been confirmed to have just seven episodes. HBO announced on July 18, Monday, that there would be just seven episodes in the next season of the show that premieres in the summer of 2017.
Since "Game of Thrones" Season 6 finale, the showrunners and the directors of the show have not kept completely silent about next season of the show being shorter than usual. But now HBO has directly confirmed that "Game of Thrones" Season 7 would definitely premiere later than usual.
According to Variety, the president of HBO Programming, Casey Bloys, said that since the winter has arrived on "Game of Thrones," D.B. Weiss and David Benioff believe that it would be better to delay the production to the time when the weather is changing as it would better serve the purpose of the next season.
"Instead of the show's traditional spring debut, we're moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule," Bloys said.
That means, the arrival of the winters in Westeros has forced the team to delay the shoot until actual winters come. However, that is applicable only to the southern locations such as King's Landing. The shooting would resume on schedule in other places, including Iceland, which is rumored to be one of the several places where "Game of Thrones" Season 7 will be shot, according to Digital Spy.
While Season 7 has been confirmed to have just seven episodes, no details about Season 8 of the show have been revealed yet. It is rumored that the last season would also have just seven episodes, but it will have a massive, two-hour finale. This will bring the season's total to a 75-hour, which, according to Benioff, the team always had in their mind since the beginning.
Secondly, the penultimate episode is expected to be a face-off with the White Walkers and the finale to be an epilogue. However, none of these speculations have been officially confirmed either by HBO or the cast and crew members of the show.
