"Droughtlander" has come, but not without interesting "Outlander" Seasons 3 spoilers to help fans get through the waiting period.
The final episode of "Outlander" Season 2 caused major heartbreak for fans, who sat watching Claire and Jamie say their last goodbye. However, it was later revealed that Jamie did not die in the Battle of Culloden, renewing hope for Claire and a desire to go back through the stones and reunite with Jamie.
As to how long fans will have to wait until that reunion comes into fruition, "Outlander" executive producer Maril Davis teased that it will most likely happen like it did in Diana Gabaldon's "Voyager."
"You know what, we're still kind of figuring that out. We're mapping it out, but I feel like we will stay fairly consistent to the books," Davis told Entertainment Tonight. She added that 20 years may pass until they finally meet again. It will be a long wait, and it will not be easy.
Another thing fans are looking forward to "Outlander" Season 3 is the arrival of the adult version of Lord John Grey. He was first introduced in "Outlander" Season 2 as the British teenager who attempted to attack Jamie and his men. In the third outing, John is the governor of Ardsmuir Prison where he meets Jamie again during Claire's absence. In the books, John is also revealed as a closeted gay man who develops feelings for Jamie.
According to executive producer Ronald D. Moore, "Outlander" Season 3 will follow the events as told in the book with regard to John's storyline.
Vanity Fair reports that there's a new character with a pivotal role next season. Young Ian, Jamie's nephew, plays a part in putting into action Jamie and Claire's adventures.
"For people who haven't read the books, they don't understand what a big character he becomes. He's so beloved," Moore said. The role is yet to be filled in.
Meanwhile, "Droughtlander" will be much shorter compared to the agony of waiting between Season 1 and Season 2. The writers are already working on the story for "Outlander" Season 3, which is said to run with a total of 13 episodes.
