Google just dropped the latest beta version of Android 7.0 Nougat, dubbed Developer Preview 5, which reports said is the OS build that will pave the way for the next Android final cut. Rumors say the official version will touch down between August and September or at around the same time of the Nexus 2016 release date.
Beta number 5 of Android Nougat packs nearly the same features that Google has already revealed for the next Android but the latest instalment is more notable on the included bugs fixes and performance enhancements, 9to5Google reported. Cosmetics-wise, the latest release share the Nougat interface already known to Android fans.
But the deployment is not without the so-called Easter Egg, which the report said came in the form of the N logo cycling through a series of emoji. This is triggered by rapid tapping of the screen when in the About Device menu.
"Additionally, the 'N' drops the purple-blue colors for a more faded beige that matches the color of nougat bars," 9to5Google said.
For the most part, the changes from the past 4 beta versions have been minimal, indicating too that what Android Nougat now will make up of the latest and greatest Android from Google when it is ready.
As expected, the tech giant has opted not reveal the specific timing of the next Android rollout but the company has previously hinted that the arrival is no later than September 2016.
However, most Android fans are convinced that Nougat will unwrap a month earlier or August, and possibly will be timed with the next Nexus unboxing. Google has always employed its Nexus series of devices as the handset of showcase for the new Android so the assumption makes full sense.
The Nexus 2016, basing on persistent speculations, will be assembled by Taiwanese device maker HTC. Two models are expected from the manufacturer - a 5-inch device codenamed Nexus Sailfish and a 5.5-inch phablet known for now as Nexus Marlin.
There is the possibility too of a third Nexus coming from Huawei, which is rumored to pattern its take on the Nexus 2016 after the 2015 Google flagship - Nexus 6P.
All three Nexus 2016 models on release date are believed to be powered by the mighty combo of Snapdragon 821 SoC with 4GB of RAM support. And running the upcoming Google Nexus show is, of course, Android 7.0 Nougat, bumping Marshmallow off the stage.
