The 2016 WWE Draft went on smoothly on the very first episode of SmackDown Live but there were plans that apparently got changed. According to the latest rumors, Brock Lesnar was originally slated to become the first overall pick in the draft.
Lesnar was coming off an impressive win against Mark Hunt at UFC 200, so it's natural for the WWE to make him the number one pick. However, he flagged by the United States Anti-Doping Agency for a potential violation and subsequently failed another drug test earlier this week.
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the WWE immediately changed their plans for the draft and opted to have Seth Rollins go as number one. He was followed by WWE champion Dean Ambrose while Lesnar dropped to the second round wherein he was selected by Monday Night Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon and general manager Mick Foley.
Despite his failed drug test under USADA, the WWE has not suspended The Beast because he may never have been tested for the Wellness Policy. He is still scheduled to wrestle Randy Orton at SummerSlam on August 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The 39-year-old superstar is still a household name for the WWE but he may not be for the UFC. Whatever happens to Lesnar, his positive test is a big blow to the WWE.
The company recently suspended the next face of wrestling, Roman Reigns, for 30 days after violating the WWE Wellness Policy. It was a public relations nightmare for the WWE since he failed while he was the WWE champion, resulting to him losing the belt cleanly.
On the other hand, Lesnar might not even return to mixed martial arts again. According to Sporting News, the mystique of The Beast is gone due to his positive drug test for clomiphene, a fertility drug that blocks estrogen.
It should be noted that Lesnar is still innocent until it has been proven that he is guilty of doping. Nevertheless, he may never be a draw for the UFC whatever the results and he could just focus on being a part-time WWE superstar.
