Game developer Nightdive Studios has just announced the "System Shock" remake will have a PlayStation 4 version. They also clarified that the PS4 version of the game was not a stretch goal that they needed to accomplish.
Project director Jason Fader wrote on their official Kickstarter page that when they launched their Kickstarter, having a PS4 was an option for them. The only reason that they did not announce it before was that they did not talk to Sony yet at that time.
Fader explained that they were finishing up the game demo, and they were preparing for the Kickstarter. Their studio already had strong contacts at Microsoft from previous projects, so it was easy for them to support the Xbox One.
Due to the overwhelming demand for the game to have a PS4 version, Fader said that the changed their priorities. They negotiated with Sony to make it happen, but it took a few weeks and a lot of emails to convince the game company. They are adding this version to thank their backers that put their faith in them.
The project director explained that by supporting more platforms, the studio will need more time and money for the game. They want to ensure that the game will function smoothly and bug-free in every platform. He added that by raising more money, the better the game will be.
Fader also wrote on their official PlayStation blog that their video game will be coming to the PS4 around the first quarter of 2018. He said that he is excited to work with the game company, and he cannot wait to see what the fans will think of it.
The work on rebooting the game series was a difficult job to do, Fader revealed. Fortunately, their studio has great professionals to assist them in the development of this great video game. He also thanked their CEO Stephen Kick for being their inspiration in creating this reboot.
Fader also discussed how the studio got the right members of the development team. They got AAA talent from different projects like "Planetside" and also the team from the original game. They promised that they will make the remake a video game that old and new fans will definitely like.
