"Supernatural" star Jensen Ackles shared that although he will not be directing any episodes of "Supernatural" Season 12, he does hope that the TV series can revisit previous storylines.
Unlike in previous seasons, wherein he directed the episodes "The Bad Seed," "Soul Survivor," "Heartache" and "The Girl Next Door," Ackles will vacate his seat behind the camera and will focus on his role as an actor in front of it instead. This decision to lay low may be due to the fact that "Supernatural" Season 12 requires a lot of physically strenuous activities for the actor.
According to MNR Daily, the 38-year-old actor shared in an interview that he wants to take it "easy" in the earlier parts of "Supernatural" Season 12, given that he is signed for a 23-episode order. He likens his experience on the show to that of a professional runner in a marathon, saying that he does not want to sprint the first few miles, only to be exhausted in the remaining miles of the race. Like a "good runner," he says he wants to pace himself in order to do his job in "Supernatural" Season 12 well.
Despite this, the actor shared that he thinks it would be "a really, really cool part of the story" to revisit "purgatory." The setting was featured in "Supernatural's" 6th, 7th, 8th, and 10th season. Added to this, he also took a trip down memory lane when he realized how much he missed the original format of the show.
He recalls having the "monster of the week kind of thing," a unique feature of the show where a new villain was introduced every week. However, because of how far the TV show has gone, Ackles will be interested to see how they can revert back to this initial show format and inject it to "Supernatural" Season 12.
In other "Supernatural" news, according to HNGN, the pilot episode of "Supernatural" Season 12 will reveal what happens to Sam (Jared Padalecki) after he gets shot in the finale, and what their mother's (Samantha Smith) return will mean for Dean and Sam.
