Newly signed Brooklyn Nets point guard Jeremy Lin shared his thoughts recently regarding his tenure with the New York Knicks, right around the time "Linsanity" was born. Lin is happy to be back in the city of New York, but recalled his sadness when his time as a Knick came to an end.
In an interview with Steve Serby of the New York Post, Lin detailed how he was "really, really sad" that the Knicks did not make an initial contract offer to him and then did not match the Houston Rockets' offer, since he wanted to finish his career with New York. He said he owed it to the Knicks fans who offered him that thrilling Linsanity experience.
In the same interview, Lin was asked about his relationship with Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony and Lin responded that he never had any personal problems with Anthony. He said they never had any conflict or disagreements, which contradicts the allegations made by former head coach Mike D'Antoni and former Knick power forward Amare Stoudemire, who both said that Anthony and Lin were not working together while with the Knicks.
Lin actually praised his former teammate Anthony, who along with Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul and LeBron James, recently opened the ESPY Awards night with a powerful speech against racism and pushed for athletes to be more involved in their respective local communities. Lin himself said he still encounters racism at times due to his being Asian but stated that he does not let it affect him.
Linsanity lives on and will once again take the stage in New York City. According to SNY, the pressure and "bright lights of the Big Apple" will once again be fixed on Lin. However, a major boost to his return to the city comes in the form of new Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson, who is familiar with Lin after having worked with him with the Knicks before as an assistant coach.
Lin described himself as very driven to succeed, wanting to be a great player. He believes he can be an elite guard in the NBA and believes that he is just hitting his prime, being only 27 years old at this point in his career.
