The upcoming twelfth season of the CW series "Supernatural" will feature a new Lucifer who is out to have some fun.
Latest casting news for "Supernatural" Season 12 indicate that rock star Rick Springfield has joined the CW show. The announcement was made by the series' producers during the show's panel at the 2016 San Diego Comic Con held on Sunday, July 24, TV Guide reported. The musician is set to play one of the devil's new vessels in the upcoming season.
Showrunner Andrew Dab described Springfield's character in the series' Season 12 as a "real role." He commented that viewers will see a devil who is on vacation and out of hell to explore the world. Dab even stated that Springfield's character will have some fun times in upcoming episodes. However, it is still unclear if the musician's role will aggravate Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean's (Jensen Ackles) struggles in the new season.
Avid fans may recall that Sam was shot by Lady Toni, a member of the Men of Letters, during the Season 11 finale. Padalecki's character will become missing in the upcoming new season and it will be up to Dean to find his new brother. However, Ackles' character would also have to deal with the return of their mother Mary (Samantha Smith). The upcoming Season 12 will show the family dynamics between the mother and son.
Ackles stated during the show's Comic-Con panel that the said situation will be a storyline that viewers have yet to see in the show, TVLine reported. He explained that a "massive gap" exists between Mary and her sons. Both of the Winchester brothers were very young when Smith's character left. Ackles described the situation as interesting given that Dean, Sam and Mary would need to build a relationship that has been nonexistent for many years.
On the other hand, Padalecki also shared that viewers will discover more about the Men of Letters in the CW show's Season 12. He teased that the upcoming new season will feature more of the said British group and their plans for the two brothers.
"Supernatural" Season 12 will air on The CW on Oct. 13.
