BlackBerry has surprised the world with its new BlackBerry DTEK50 which is touted as the world's most secure Android smartphone if there is even such a thing.
Another highlight of the BlackBerry DTEK50 is that it ditches the trademark QWERTY keyboard that has been present in their previous offerings. Now, the new smartphone certainly looks like any other Android device out there.
Learning from their mistakes in the previous BlackBerry PRIV Android smartphone, the BlackBerry DTEK50 is now designed for the mid-range market with a decent price tag. It may still be a little bit pricy but the specs and the security features are worth it in the end.
The BlackBerry DTEK50 has a modest price tag of only $299 compared to the PRIV's hefty $700, CNET has learned. After the failure in sales of the PRIV, the Canadian company has now listened to what their customers have said.
In addition, the specs of the new Android smartphone from BlackBerry is not all that bad either and can be a decent replacement for some phones from 2015. For starters, the DTEK50 has a huge 3GB RAM for multitasking and to prevent slowdowns in performance.
BlackBerry has also fitted the DTEK50 with a Snapdragon 617 processor and runs the Android 6.0 Marshmallow version out of the box, 9 to 5 Google reported. It also has a 5.2-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 16GB of internal storage.
Perhaps two of the biggest highlights of the BlackBerry DTEK50 is the lack of the physical keyboard from the company but leaving the great security features intact. The company even claims that the DTEK50 is the most secure device on the Android roster of products which is a much needed addition considering that the platform is not really all that secure what with all the bugs and vulnerabilities popping up.
BlackBerry also promises monthly security patches for the Android DTEK50 smartphone to maintain the user's privacy and protection against hackers. The new Android smartphone from the once glorious company is now available for pre-orders in Italy, Germany, Spain, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the United States until August 8 afternoon.
