Apple will start pre-orders for its highly anticipated iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices on Sept. 9, according to well-known industry blogger and mobile phone leaker Evan Blass.

Blass recently suggested that the iPhone 7 and 7 plus will be released anytime in the week of Sept. 12. Not long after his initial claim, he revealed that Apple's flagship model will go on sale on Sept. 16, according to 9to5Mac.

"Confirmed: Pre-orders start on the 9th. You can extrapolate the launch event date from there," Blass wrote on Twitter.

Blass has a reputation for leaking photos and information about upcoming smartphones long before an official confirmation from the company. Days before leaking the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus' release date, he pointed out that the codenames for the new handsets are "Sonora" and "Dos Palos," according to MacRumors.

If Blass' words are anything to go by, Apple will announce the devices in the first week of September as it traditionally unveils the latest iPhone a couple of days before pre-orders kick off.

Last year, the tech giant announced the iPhone 6S on Sept. 9, started taking pre-orders on Sept. 12 and the phone hit store shelves on Sept. 25.

The iPhone 7 will more or less maintain the same design as its previous models, with some minor changes and improvements. For instance, the antenna lines located on the rear side of the device will be repositioned and the phone is rumored to be water and dust resistant.

Apple has also decided to get rid of the 3.5mm audio jack to make way for a speaker setup at the bottom. Users will however be able to utilize the Lightning connector to plug in their headphones and other devices to the handset.

Both iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models will get a camera upgrade and the larger variant will be equipped with a dual lens camera for improved performance.
