Angel investor, entrepreneur and analyst Jason Calacanis predicted that Apple would buy Tesla. Now, another report seems to corroborate with this prediction, providing reasons why Apple will buy Tesla.
Calacanis, who does not hold shares in either company nor did he receive insider information, believes Apple will buy Tesla for $75 billion within the next 18 months. In a blog post on Feb. 14, Friday, he lists 19 reasons that make Apple a likely buyer of Elon Musk's company.
Some think Calacanis' prediction will never happen, but for Seamus Condron of PC Mag, the analyst's prediction makes "so much sense it feels like a forgone conclusion." He wrote an article citing the four reasons that stuck out to him and substantiated these with his own explanations.
Obsession With Renewable Energy
According to Calacanis, Tim Cook is obsessed with renewable energy, with the recent update being Apple buying a huge solar farm in Monterey, California. On the other hand, Musk had always been all about saving the planet through harnessing the power of electricity: first with cars, now in a new battery that could power homes someday.
The point is both Cook and Musk are "very interested" in saving the planet with renewable energy." According to Condron, the two will realize at some point that joining forces is a logical step to achieve their mutual goals.
Self-Driving Cars Will Be In The Market Soon
Calacanis said self-driving cars will be in the market within a decade or less. Google is reportedly already working on one.
And for Apple and Tesla to compete with Google, they have to work together, says Condron. He adds that although Tesla has already won the electric car revolution, it "needs Apple's cash to become a household name."
Apple Car Development Means Apple Is Serious About Tesla's Automobiles
Because Apple takes its time in developing and releasing new products to the market and it doesn't know anything about building a car not to mention it is already behind Google and Tesla, Condron believes Apple's effort to build its own car is more of a signal to Tesla that it is serious about automobiles. But not just any automobile, Condron thinks Apple is really interested in Tesla's vehicles.
Elon Musk as Apple Chairman
Calacanis said Musk could become Apple's chairman if it does join forces with Tesla. This makes sense for Condron, too.
Condron sees Musk as the new Walt Disney and as such finds it out of character for him to run the day-to-day operations at Apple. "That said, as chairman of Apple, he cannot only help shape the future innovation of the company, but he'll have a much bigger soapbox to help shape innovation on a global scale," he explains.
