After tasting a proverbial flash-in-the-pan success with Pokémon Go, Nintendo is readying to launch its NX console.
According to Wall Street Journal, it was previously being said that the handheld device will probably use game cartridges and can also be connected to a TV at home while playing games. But now, new details have come to the fore. It is being said that it will be compatible with Nintendo's smartphone games. Though Nintendo has not confirmed the reports, it makes sense for the company to take the mobile gaming route.
Mobile games are the future of videogames and in order to survive, Nintendo should adopt the futuristic "mobile-supporting" strategy, which it has resisted for long. Also, it would be highly desirable if the NX home console allows players to enjoy Pokémon Go on it. The game is wildly popular and has been downloaded more than 75 million times within three weeks of its release.
Meanwhile, Nintendo also has plans to launch two more mobile games. Though it has not been successful with Miitomo- the company's first mobile game, it is working on two additional mobile games, based on its popular Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises, which might be seen as a sign that it is in favor of mobile-compatible console business.
With NX, the idea is to attract more customers to its premium console games, which can gain momentum with mobile-supporting strategy. Nintendo stands to profit through such a strategy and profit is something that Nintendo is truly concerned about, at present. The Verge reports that the roaring success of Pokémon Go may have brought it into the limelight, but all is not well with the 127-year-old Japanese videogame maker.
The company has reported a major loss in the current quarter after it revealed that it was not involved in the creation of the game. But the NX console seems to have the potential to uplift its fortunes and it would be interesting to see how things shape up in the coming few months. Nintendo is expected to reveal its console in September, this year.
