It is confirmed that the much-delayed book "Winds of Winter" will not be released in August. Earlier, there were rumors that the book may be released at the Worldcon where author George R. R. Martin has been invited as a special guest.
Martin's publisher Jaki Arthur revealed that there is no truth in the reports that "Winds of Winter" will be released at the Worldcon. He added that currently Martin has not finished the book and he is unaware when it will be launched. Arthur also revealed that whenever the book is finally released then it would be a very big publishing event, according to Daily Telegraph.
Meanwhile, there are also reports that HBO is purposely delaying the TV premiere of "Game of Thrones" Season 7, so that Martin has more time to finish off the book. Apparently, Martin is not happy with the spoilers of "Game of Thrones" Season 6 so he had to rewrite a major chunk of the book in order to give it a fresh and new perspective, which will appeal to the fans.
Martin is said to be working on the lives of Jon Snow and Arya Stark. He wanted to kill off a number of his characters but he is unable to do so because he needs a new storyline, which is different to the TV series. Hence, he is forced to keep some key characters alive and instead complicate their lives in other ways.
In a podcast interview, "Game of Thrones" creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff also confirmed that they will start the much-anticipated seventh season of the TV show a bit late. It is hoped that by that time, Martin finishes "Winds of Winter" and it is released.
On the other hand, there are also rumors that Martin is planning to release "Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring" together. Fans have waited a number of years for the former book and in order to appease them, Martin may release the latter book as well.
