It seems like avid "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" fans may still get the chance to see the books come to life in the form of a television series.
While touring for his movie "Noah" in 2014, actor Logan Lerman shared that a third installment for the "Percy Jackson" franchise will not be pushing through. Although "it's been a great experience for [Logan]," and that he was "interested in this movie before [he] even knew what it was," he shared that he doesn't think "it's happening," referring to a potential production of a third film installment.
According to the Vine Report, although both "The Lightning Thief" (2010) and "Sea of Monsters" (2013) performed well in the box office, thanks to the book's loyal fans, the movie franchise still received mixed reviews from film critics. This may be a reason why "Percy Jackson The Titan's Curse" will not be seen in cinemas anymore, despite the fact that the franchise has opened many doors for its lead character.
However, all hope is not lost yet. The same publication also reported that The CW may be adapting the franchise as a television series. The CW is said to have a pre-planned allotted budget for a one and a half season run, amounting to $12 million. The said budget is accompanied by a 10-year long term contract for the cast of the potential "Percy Jackson" TV series, showing that the network may be interested in capitalizing on the book series for a longer period of time.
According to Ecumenical News, series author Rick Riordan is reported to be on board with the new "Percy Jackson" project, and even has his own ideas in terms of casting. The original book series is a 5-book installment, which means that there is enough creative material for the production team to use, should they push through with the television series.
Percy Jackson is a typical teenager who discovers that he's a son of Greek God Poseidon, making him a demigod since his mother is a human. He later finds himself in Camp Half Blood, a camp specifically designed for half-human, half-gods like himself. The series features Percy's adventures with his friends as they fight the evil plans of Hades.
