Veteran center Javale McGee has reportedly received an offer from the Golden State Warriors, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.
"The Warriors are signing veteran center JaVale McGee to a make-good deal for a chance to make the team in training camp, league sources say," Stein broke the news on Twitter.
To be clear, the Warriors' offer is make-good deal, giving McGee a chance to compete for a roster spot in training camp.
The Warriors have been trying to beef up their frontline by acquiring big men on a minimum salary. They have already inked Zaza Pachulia, Anderson Varejao and David West, though neither can provide the rim protection Andrew Bogut and his backup Festus Ezeli provided the past three seasons.
McGee can certainly swat shot with his incredible athleticism, averaging 1.7 blocks throughout his career. However, injuries and immaturity issues have been his problem, and he hopes the Warriors' championship pedigree will turn him into a better player.
"The Warriors have since signed Zaza Pachulia and David West and re-signed Anderson Varejao, but they have decided to gamble on the athletic McGee in hopes they can unearth a rotation player and add a shot-blocker to the roster.
The 28-year old McGee played last season with the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 5.1 points and 3.9 rebounds in 10 minutes per game.
