Hollywood's favorite stars and performers have gathered at The Forum in Los Angeles, California, on July 31 for the 2016 Teen Choice Awards. The awards night was hosted by former Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice and wrestler John Cena.
The event was memorable because aside from the grand performances, many A-list artists showed up at the event. Social issues were also tackled during the program so the night was really unforgettable.
When Jessica Alba went up the stage, she called on to the youths to stand united in order to stop gun violence which has been rampant these days. In response, teens immediately showed their support to the call by trending the hashtag #StopTheViolence on Twitter.
10 teenagers whose families were victims of gun violence also joined Alba on stage so her pleading moved the viewers even more. Justin Timberlake also delivered an inspiring and powerful speech, directed to the teens, as he accepts the very first "Decade Award" at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards.
"As a relatively new dad and a former teen, I'm here to say you will make mistakes along the way," Rolling Stone quoted Timberlake as saying. "You will fall down. I have many times but what we do after that fall is how we make history because impossible is nothing. So don't waste your 20s."
The awards night was also filled with many light moments like when the hosts entered the stage with a brief skit where Justice challenged Cena for a wrestling match. There was also the hilarious appearance of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump as Justice and Cena tried to impersonate them.
The event concluded on a high note with the performance of R&B artist Jason Derulo. He performed a medley of his most popular tracks and the audience gamely danced along with him as he strut on stage.
Meanwhile, the winners of the 2016 Teen Choice Awards were selected through online voting and they were given custom-made surfboards as "trophies." The organizers chose surfboard as the award since it generally typify teens' freedom during summer vacations. The complete list of winners has been posted on Teen Choice website.
