Sony has rolled out the PS2 Classic Ape Escape 2 for PS4 on the European PlayStation Store, while not yet made available on the North American one.
Sony released the new PS2 classics on PS4 via the recently added emulation feature without much of an official announcement..
The Ape Escape 2, developed by SCE Japan studio, was released for the PS2 back in 2002 in Japan, and a year later in Europe. 14 years later, the game is out on PS4 via PlayStation Network. Where currently, the price is at £5.99 for PlayStation Plus subscribers, and £7.99 for everyone else, GameTSU reported.
In the game, Jimmy is assigned on job of delivering a cargo of Monkey Pants to Monkey Park. But mixed up in the shipment is a batch of the intelligence-boosting Peak Point Helmets! The good news - the monkeys all have pants on. This is a family game. The bad news - sinister simian Specter has his intellect back, and is marshalling the monkeys to take over the world! Jimmy must get to work and accomplish the mission.
According to EuroGamer, the PS2 classic looks stunning in HD on PS4, the game is packaged with full trophy support plus Share Play, Remote Play, activity feeds and second screen support for game manuals with the PlayStation App or PlayStation Vita.
Back in 2003, Kristan Reed penned Eurogamer's Ape Escape 2 review awarding it a 6/10. "Keeping in mind the exclusivity of PS2, Ape Escape 2 is really competing in a very crowded market, although with a large installed base," he posted. "Sony has tried to approach the genre from a strategic and quirky angle, but our long-term impression of the game is one that mostly entertains, but rarely motivates."
The PlayStation Store mostly updates on Tuesdays in North America, so it is possible Ape Escape 2 will be launched this week.
