"High School Musical 4" is really happening, but there's still a lot of questions regarding the return of its original powerhouse cast. More specifically, the possibility of having main leads Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens on the movie is still uncertain.
Disney Channel confirmed that it is firing up the engines for the fourth "High School Musical" film, returning to the beloved East High and introducing a new set of Wildcats. While it is clear that the TV movie franchise is shifting its gears to focus on the new generation, there are rumblings that many of the original characters are returning.
This leads to rumors about Efron and Hudgens' "High School Musical" reunion. The former has been keeping his distance from the massive Disney franchise, as he subtly hinted during previous interviews that he despised his role as Troy Bolton. He even told Men's Fitness, "I step back and look at myself and I still want to kick that guy's ass sometimes."
However, Efron took to Instagram to assure "HSM" fans that he didn't mean to offend anyone with his statement, and that he has nothing but love for the movies that put his name on the map.
"So grateful I came across this picture... with the o.g. crew during one of the most cherished times of my life. #fbf," Efron captioned a photo of him with co-stars Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu.
Hudgens, on the other hand, expressed her full support for "High School Musical 4." In an interview with ET Online, the actress said, "I love musicals. Being able to do musicals is such a dream of mine and the fact that they're keeping it alive and bringing it to a new generation is really wonderful."
Reports suggest that some of the original cast members will appear as mentors on "High School Musical 4." It is said that maybe Tisdale can appear as Mrs. Darbus' assistant moderator in the theatre club. Bleu, who attended the "High School Musical 4" casting call could be the new basketball team coach, Entertainment Weekly reported.
"High School Musical 4" will be directed by Jeffrey Hornaday, and will showcase the rivalry between the East High Wildcats and West High Knights.
