Lieutenant Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her SVU team will collaborate with the United States Vice President Joe Biden in one of the upcoming episodes of the hit series "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit," in September. Through this cameo, Biden hopes to voice his concern about sexual violence against women
His appearance on the episode will highlight the growing backlog of untested rape kits, and will focus on efforts that can end violence against women.The episode will air on Sept. 28 where Biden is expected to raise his voice against the issue. NBC has released a statement confirming the VP's cameo,CNN reported.
Both the politician, Biden and the actress, Hargitay have long been known for being the advocates of violence against women. The actress in June attended the United States of Women Summit to talk about the importance of testing the kits to help in the arrest of sexual vagrants, which was held at the White House.
A press release said that the VP will make an appearance as himself. It will be a press conference scene where he will praise Lt. Benson and her team, for their work pertaining to the national rape kit backlog,particularly in the city of Detroit.
Meanwhile, other guest stars to look forward to in season 18 are "ET: The Extra-Terrestrial" actor Henry Thomas and "The Practice's" actress Kelli Williams. Thomas will play the role of a convict who will be acquitted after spending 16 years in prison. Soon after his release, a woman, Melanie (Williams) will accuse him of raping her. Detective Fin Tutuola (Ice T), who had earlier handled the first case against the alleged serial rapist, will once again be called in to lead the investigation. The episode is said to be based on the Netflix's "Making a Murderer," where Steven Avery, a criminal is arrested again two years after serving a sentence which was 18 years long, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
73-year-old Biden, for many years, has been fighting to end sexual violence against women.His appearance will be aired in the 18th season of the show, which premieres on Sept.21 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
