The tight competition between GPUs - AMD RX 480 and NVIDIA GTX 1060 - seems to be in favor on AMD RX 480.
It did not come as a surprise that AMD has dropped its sales in 2015 owing to the upsurge of popularity of NVDIA GTX. However, the 2016 quarter report of AMD showed massive shock to many, as its sales skyrocketed up to 15 percent to 21 percent, wherein it is expected to be higher this coming holiday season.
With this, Extreme Tech took a chance to compare the two, highlighting their main differences. First is the difference of the two in terms of price. NVIDIA's GTX 1060 has been consistent since its release, costing as much as $250, compared to RX 480 which is priced at $200. Apparently, RX 480 is significantly cheaper and consumers believe that the 25.5 percent difference in price weigh more importance that the 13 percent better performance of GTX 1060.
Second is the difference of the two as to games they offer. Recently, RX 480 took a chance to upgrade the games included in the product, such as the hit titles like "Doom," "Hitman," "Ashes of the SIngularity" and "Gears of the War: Ultimate Edition." Meanwhile, GTX 1060 has its powerhouse game including "Rise of the Tomb Rider" and "Total War: Warhammer."
Meanwhile, it is said that this sudden increase in sales of RX 480 may be traced back to its newly improved Graphic card called Radeon RX 480 developed by Polaris Architecture. This new chip uses a 14 nm technology and gives almost the same quality as higher-end GPU from NVIDIA, but offered at a cheaper price.
Furthermore, RX 480 was able to support "Doom" with Vulkan, which gave AMD's advantage in mid-ranged GPUs, and with the Vulkan Next rumored too come out, AMD will surely compete head to head with NVIDIA's GTX.
In other news, reports suggest that AMD will release more graphics card for high-end users, which is expected to supersede NVIDIA's GTX performance.
