The Philadelphia 76ers could be in pole position to sign marquee free agents next summer, and according to the latest rumors, two of Philly's realistic targets are Kyle Lowry and Andre Iguodala.
The 76ers were able to build a decent roster this offseason, while still preserving flexibility for next year's free agency. With top stars becoming unlikely to join Philadelphia in the summer of 2017, the 76ers could look for alternatives who can help develop bring experience and develop the team's young talents.
Surely, the 76ers' prospects for the free agency next year could change as the season goes on, but according to Jason Dandy of Hoops Reference, Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry and Golden State Warriors forward Andre Iguodala could be realistic targets for Philly.
With the 76ers lacking a bona fide floor commander, adding a talented point guard would absolutely be in the team's bucket list come free agency next year. Lowry, who averaged a career best 21.2 points per game last season, should instantly address that need.
Lowry is locked up with the Raptors until the end of the 2017-2018 season, but he has a player option in the final term of his four-year $48 million contract with the team. A chance to play for his hometown could also help the 76ers woo Lowry from the Raptors, who are expected to keep the 30-year-old PG.
Likewise, Iguodala would also help in the development of the 76ers' young talents if Philadelphia could pry out the versatile forward from the Warriors. Iguodala, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, could draw interests from several teams, but a reunion with the 76ers may also interest him.
Coming from a winning team like the Warriors, Iguodala's experience would be a valuable asset to a 76ers team that has a plethora of young talents. Iguodala's tenure with the Warriors is uncertain regardless of the outcome of the Warriors' campaign this season, with Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant also expected to hit the market in July next year. This would give the 76ers a perfect chance to convince Iggy for a reunion with the team where he started his NBA career.
It is still too early for the 76ers to ponder about prospects for next summer, but any potential signings between the two aforementioned players should bring the winning culture back to Philadelphia.
