Lee Sung-Kyun, 25, and Nam Joo-Hyuk, 22, both of whom appeared on tvN's "Cheese In The Trap," have reunited for MBC's upcoming drama, "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Book-Joo" (working title).
The drama, currently in pre-production, follows a 20-year-old female weightlifter, Kim Bok-Joo, who becomes hopelessly enamored for the first time. Lee will play the titular character Kim Bok-Joo, whilst Nam will portray Jung Joon-Hyung, Asian Wiki reported.
Kim Bok-Joo is in the second year of college majoring in physical education who belongs to the school's weightlifting team. Jung Joon-Hyung, on the other hand, belongs to the school's swimming team. He suffers from a trauma in the wake of being excluded for an illicit beginning.
Lee is currently going through a massive transformation for her new role, HanCinema reported. The upcoming drama's screenplay is spurred by a real-life South Korean Olympic weightlifter, Jang Mi-Ran.
Directed by PD Oh Hyun-Jong, "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Book-Joo" also stars N.Flying's Kim Jae Hyun. He will play Jung Joon-Hyung's junior on the school's swimming team. The drama is written by Yang Hee-Seung, who brought the 2015 hit drama "Oh My Ghostess."
MBC's "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Book-Joo" will air sooner or later in November. More details about the projects will be revealed soon.
Lee and Nam respectively starred as Baek In-Ha and Kwon Eun-Taek in tvN's "Cheese In Trap." The 16-episode drama, which aired from Jan. 4 to March 01, depicts the life and relationships of a group of university students, especially the troublesome relationship between Hong Seol (Kim Go Eun) and her senior, Yoo Jung (Park Hae-Jin).
The drama was a success in both South Korea and mainland China. It received critical acclaim for its realistic delineation of daily lives of the university students, but was scrutinized for diverging from its original webtoon source.
Currently, Lee stars in SBS's "Doctors"alongside Kim Rae Won, Park Shin Hye, and Yoon Kyun-Sang. Nam, on the other hand, will portray the 13th Prince, Wang Wook aka Baek-Ah, in "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo," an upcoming drama based on the Chinese novel "Bu Bu Jing Xin" by Tong Hua.
The 20-episode historical drama will premiere on Aug. 29, taking over the SBS Monday-Tuesday 10:00 PM KST time slot, currently occupied by "Doctors." Check out the trailer below:
