Tyga, Kylie Jenner's boyfriend, has landed in legal hot waters since a bench warrant has been issued on Aug. 9, Tuesday, for his arrest. He allegedly failed to appear at a Santa Monica courtroom for a hearing in a lawsuit brought by his former landlord, Gholamreza Rezai.
The 26-year-old rapper was supposed to appear for questioning about his finances after Rezai was granted a judgment for unpaid rent and damages to the Malibu property that the rapper rented in 2011. Noting Tyga's absence, Judge Nancy Newman issued a bench warrant for skipping out on the scheduled questioning and to ensure his future attendance in court.
The situation unfolded five years ago when Tyga rented an oceanfront Malibu home at a monthly rate of $16,000. He reportedly left the property early against the terms of the lease after leaving the home in a poor condition. The damages included a stripper pole he installed in the home's master bedroom, an intercom system that had been disconnected and damaged hardwood floor, Daily Mail reported.
A default judgment totaling $480,285 was approved in March to cover alleged vandalism, rent owed and legal fees. Since Tyga did not pay, Rezai's attorney reportedly sought a debtor's examination for which the notice was handed over to the rapper during his July 20 concert in San Diego.
Reports also claimed that Rezai was upset over the news that Tyga, whose real name is Michael Ray Stevenson, bought his girlfriend $200,000 worth car for her birthday instead of clearing his payment. The landlord's attorney claimed the rapper's extravagant gift as a fraudulent transfer of assets that should have gone instead to satisfy the judgement.
"It is clear that Mr. Stevenson thought he had better things to do, like buy his girlfriend Kylie Jenner a new $189,000 Maybach while continuing to claim poverty," USA Today quoted Abir as saying. "Kylie shouldn't get too comfortable in her new car; it's unlikely to be hers much longer."
Earlier this summer, Tyga was in news for signing a new lease on a home located just blocks away from Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's Bel-Air estate. The 12,800-square-foot pad reportedly comes with the steep price of $46,500 per month.
