Remedy Entertainment and Microsoft Studios have decided to sell the former Xbox and Windows 10 exclusive Quantum Break through Steam with a release date on September 14 for Windows 7 and above PCs.
Microsoft has been selling Quantum Break for several months now but it was only for Windows 10 users. It was also being sold through the Redmond-based company's Windows Store that is built-in with their latest operating system.
Another problem was that the game was only available for PC gamers who had video cards that supported DirectX 12. With the new AMD Radeon RX 480, RX 470 and RX 460 cards going cheaper than their predecessors, that should not be a problem.
Quantum Break will still be available to be played on DirectX 11 and Windows 7 when it finally comes through Steam next month, Digital Trends has learned. However, users will still need a 64-bit version for their Windows in order to play the game.
Recommended specs for Remedy's Quantum Break include an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or an AMD Radeon R9 390 graphics card. Anything above that could run the game at its max graphics settings with smooth framerates of more than 60 frames per second.
Quantum Break's entrance to the PC gaming industry could also mean that other former Xbox exclusive titles would eventually make its way to Windows PCs, PC World reported. These could include the Halo and Gears of War series but no confirmation has been heard from Microsoft so far.
The Redmond tech giant's Play Anywhere feature could also hint that Xbox titles other than the exclusives will also be part of the PC titles in the near future. Microsoft has been pushing for a unified Windows experience and their video game titles are certainly part of their plan.
Minimum requirements to play Quantum break include an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or an AMD Radeon R7 260X video card with 8GB RAM instead of the 16GB for high-end setups. The game itself is not really demanding in terms of graphics power but it is expected to eat up more resources than usual because it was just ported from the Xbox One.
Quantum Break does not have a price tag yet for Steam but the Windows Store version costs $40. Steam could offer it at a lower price with a limited time promo sale.
