Las Vegas Chinatown Plaza celebrated the Chinese New Year on Sunday, with over a hundred vendors filling every nook and alley of the entire Chinatown, selling cultural foods and authentic Chinese goods. The festival was a chance for the merchants to boost their sales.
Vendor Crystal Shen said about the ocassion: "It gives me a good opportunity to sell my items and show my culture."
According to Shen, the Lunar Year celebration in Las Vegas brings a lot of people from everywhere. Shen said that the Chinese cultural presentations and exhibitions bring delight not only to the Asian community but also to people of different nationalities.
Moreover, the Lunar New Year brings fresh cash into Vegas's local businesses.
This year, over 10,000 people attended the Valley's Chinese New Year Festival. The Chinatown crowd also encouraged vendors from out of the state to come parade their merchandise in the spirit of holiday festival.
Shen said: "They're selling a lot and they see a lot of performances so it brings in more sister states like California, Arizona, Utah vendors into Nevada, into Las Vegas. It let's them know it's good to invest here. In just one day, you can showcase your products to thousands of people and even sell everything at the end of the day."
Vegas casinos also celebrated the New Year with their own shows, presentations and decorations, all in the spirit of the holiday. The whole of Vegas is benefited from thousands of people coming in and spending their money on the strip.
A rough estimate states that one-sixth of the world's population celebrates the Lunar New Year and an estimate of two billion people travel on this holiday.
