Facebook and Adblock Plus seem to be playing cat and mouse as the former tries to place ads while the latter tries to block advertisements being shown on the social media network.
The social network giant has recently announced that they will be showing off ads that are better and more secure than the previous ones. Advertising is one of Facebook's largest revenue generator but adblockers have proven to be quite a problem for Facebook.
After rolling out Facebook's new advertising algorithm, AdBlock Plus has found a way to circumvent their method. Facebook blocked it again but AdBlock Plus has also managed to penetrate the former's new code.
Facebook is now planning to launch another code to nullify the Adblock Plus workaround, TechCrunch has learned. The social network giant is faster at nullifying the bypass methods compared to the adblocker taking several days to find a vulnerability to exploit within Facebook's desktop website.
Users cannot really escape from the advertisements shown on Facebook as it is the price they pay for the free social media network service. Some users think that ads can be intrusive and inappropriate which is why Facebook rolled out the ads preferences feature so that users can opt out of some company's ads if they find it disturbing or distracting.
AdBlock Plus users can just add the new custom filter to block the Facebook ads. Ben Williams, Communications Manager for AdBlock Plus, said that the filter can block out other content on the social network but that would be Facebook's fault and not theirs, CNET reported.
There is no end in sight for the back and forth between Facebook and AdBlock Plus. The social network giant does not seem to be ending their crusade to keep their advertisers' money and AdBlock Plus could be intent on finding a more permanent solution to block ads on Facebook.
AdBlock Plus can block most ads on a website and users have been using it to filter out the annoying advertisements. However, most free content businesses thrive by using ads like Facebook and Twitter does.
