New details have emerged about the upcoming SBS drama "Legend Of The Blue Sea," starring Lee Min-Ho and actress Jun Ji-Hyun. The 29-year-old actor is said to be playing a dual role in the eagerly anticipated 20-episode drama.
"The Heirs" actor will transform into a young man, Kim-Mu, who comes from a noble family during the Joseon Dynasty, according to Korean news outlet Sports DongA, as cited by All Kpop. In the present time, he will portray a cold-blooded con-artist, Heo Jun-Jae, who poses as a legal advisor, businessman or doctor to trick others.
Helmed by PD Jin Hyeok, "Legend of the Blue Sea" is a fantasy romance drama portraying the timeless love between Kim-Mu/Heo Jun-Jae and Sim Chung (Jun), who is a mermaid. The upcoming drama is based on Yu Mong-In's "Euo Yadam" story collection.
In the original story collection, the story revolves around a county magistrate, Kim Dam-Ryung, who released mermaids into the ocean. The released mermaids were later caught by fishermen.
In a recent interview with Drama Fever, Lee revealed the factors why he chose to star in the upcoming drama. It is worth noting that the "Legend of the Blue Sea" marks the Hallyu star small-screen comeback after three years.
"I think this will be a series that has an appropriate amount of fantasy," Lee explained. "Since the drama contains elements that are universally acknowledged, I think that this project will give off a more familiar feel to the viewers."
Since the content of the drama involves exotic coasts and a blue sea, both Lee and Jun will leave for Palau and Spain later this month to kick off the principal photography for the series. "Legend of the Blue Sea" is written by Park Ji-Eun, who brought the 2013-2014 blockbuster TV drama "My Love from the Star."
Aside from the aforementioned characters, "Legend of the Blue Sea" also stars Lee Hee-Joon as Jo Nam-Doo, Moon So-Ri as Ahn Jin-Joo and Shin Hye-Sun as Cha Si-A. The drama is scheduled to premiere sometime in November.
