After Niantic issued a warning to Pokemon Go cheaters that they would be removed permanently, Nintendo, on Sunday, took down a fan-made Pokemon game which took nine years to develop.
PCMag reported that Pokemon Uranium was taken down. The game’s Version 1.0 was released only on Wednesday, but Nintendo, creator of Pokemon, had acted swiftly and got the fan-made game taken down.
In a statement, the developers of Pokemon Uranium, said, “After receiving more than 1,500,000 downloads of our game, we have been notified of multiple takedown notices from lawyers representing Nintendo of America. While we have not personally been contacted, it's clear what their wishes are, and we respect those wishes deeply. Therefore, we will no longer provide official download links for the game through our website.”
But only official download links to its website had been removed by the developer, reported Kotaku. The official message boards for the game remains on the website and gamers would still be able to connect with fellow players to chat.
However, since the cease-and-desist order which Nintendo got was only for the official host, there are still about 20 sites that provide links to Pokemon Uranium. The game’s developer warned, “We have no connection to fans who reupload the game files to their own hosts, and we cannot verify that those download links are all legitimate. We advise you to be extremely cautious about downloading the game from unofficial sources.”
The website also said it would continue to provide related news and updates about Pokemon Uranium through official channels.
