The LA Lakers drama show has a new chapter as Nick Young appears to be willing to patch things up with D'Angelo Russell.
The conflict was started when the rookie Russell sent out a video of a conversation he had with Young wherein the latter confessed to having trysts with women other than current girlfriend, recording artist Iggy Azalea. The "bros before hoes" rule was violated.
This became an NBA matter when there was tension at the locker room and the Lakers players were deliberately shutting out Russell during a game.
For the Lakers' front office, this was also no longer a personal matter as it affected the camaraderie of the team. Since they could not trade their top talent, Nick Young has been placed on the trading block.
However, the team has yet to find a trade partner for the beleaguered player. Young has had a reputation for taking ill-advised shots and relying on isolation plays-a play that has come under intense scrutiny in today's NBA.
Now, Young is probably hoping that a trade would no longer be necessary. As he told Mark Medina of LA Daily News "We're teammates," Young said. "It's been so long, so it's kind of old.
"We'll be able to work it out. We've already been working it out. It is what it is. I can't be mad forever."
While Young and Russell may patch things up, the Lakers seem intent on trading him anyway. Not that they haven't tried before and ended up emty-handed.
All is not lost on the Lakers if they want to get rid of Young (and they want to because his contract extends beyond the season. The Memphis Grizzlies are a possible destination as they are, as SB Nation team blog Grizzly Bear Blues mentioned, "thin on the wings."
"The only player with significant experience that the Grizzlies have outside of their projected starters is Vince Carter. That's it," the article stated.
For all his faults, Nick Young is a veteran who can shoot, something Tony Allen could not do. It is still a risk but the price tag would not be too high. There aren't too many options for the Grizz (Lance Stephenson, maybe).
If Stephenson managed to be a contributor for Memphis late last season, they can probably squeeze something out of Young.
