"The Vampire Diaries" alum Susan Walters is joining the cast of "The Flash" Season 3 as Caitlin Snow's mother.
Walters is starring as Daniel Panabaker's onscreen mother, Dr. Carla Tannhauser. According to Entertainment Weekly, the character is described as a "world class biomedical engineer" and also the CEO of a big time research company.
Dr. Tannhauser's introduction in the series aims to shed some light on her shaky relationship with her daughter. The mother-daughter tandem does not quite see eye to eye, with Carla considering her daughter as someone who's rebellious and Caitlin seeing her mom as rather cold-hearted.
Carla and Caitlin's relationship was first tapped in "The Flash" Season 2 when Caitlin was confronted by her villainous doppelganger Killer Frost. It was revealed that both versions of Caitlin do not have happy relationships with their respective mothers. In Killer Frost's case, the tension stemmed from the death of her brother, Charlie.
Walters is among the new roster of characters set to appear in "The Flash" Season 3. She is joined by "Harry Potter" star Tom Felton, who is playing Julian Dorn, a fellow CSI at the Central City Police. Felton is also rumored to take on Cobalt Blue, one of Flash's nemesis and presumed twin brother.
Den of Geek reports that Grey Damon is also appearing as Sam Scudder, a known enemy of The Flash in the comic books. Scudder is also known as Mirror Master, who has the "power to travel through any reflective surface." That character debuts in episode 4 in "The Flash" Season 3.
"The Flash" Season 3 is confirmed to take after the "Flashpoint" storyline in the series. Everything that fans have known since the first season is altered after Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) decided to save his mother in the Season 2 finale. The alternate universe paves way for new characters to come and different stories to be told. But despite the major change, Barry will still have memories from the previous timeline, so he still has that anchor to the original timeline.
"The Flash" Season 3 is set to premiere on Oct. 4, Tuesday, on The CW.
