Kim Min-Seok revealed that he was prepared to do anything to play the role of Choi Kang-Soo in SBS's "Doctors," starring Park Shin Hye and Kim Rae Won. The 26-year-old actor talked about how playing the role as authentic as possible meant shaving his head to get it.
In a phone interview with Korea's Yonhap News Agency, as cited by The Kpop Herald, Kim revealed that it took him more than two hours to settle on whether he truly needed to shave his hair off. Although he was told it was not necessary to shave his real hair, Kim chose to proceed with the plan since he did not want to fake it.
"I put a bottle of alcohol in front of me thinking 'I should make a decision before this is empty," said Kim. "It took like two or three hours to make up my mind."
SBS's "Doctors" episode 17, which aired on Aug. 15, Monday with a nationwide rating of 20.8 percent, saw Kim's Choi Kang-Soo shaving his head in preparation for the surgery. Choi Kang-Soo, who is a 1st-year neurosurgery resident doctor, was diagnosed with a meningioma cerebrum tumor.
The much-deliberated shaving scene just took four minutes to film. Many then praised Kim for his devotion and remarkable performance in the drama.
The actor's label, Woolim Entertainment, stated to All Kpop that the head shaving scene was possible due to Kim's enthusiasm and determination. The entertainment label added that Kim had no worries about shaving his head because he liked the script.
"He is an MC on 'Inkigayo'," Woolim Entertainment added. "So, of course, we were worried about his style, but we all decided to go on with it after discussion."
Meanwhile, "Doctors" episode 18 was not aired on Aug. 16, Tuesday, due to the broadcast of this year's Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The next episode is now scheduled to be aired on Aug. 22.
