Many fans believe that "The Winds of Winter" has already been completed and that George RR Martin is waiting for an opportune moment to release its sixth book from the popular "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. To appease his impatient fans, Martin always reads a chapter from his upcoming book every time he attends an event; hence, the speculation that the book already finished.
Martin published an entry on his live journal on Aug. 1, marking the 20th anniversary of his franchise. In the name of an update, he said "But here I am, twenty years later... still working on book six... ((and no, sorry, I have no announcement to make on that front))."
In an interview with Newsweek, Jane Johnson, Martin's publishing editor, said that she doesn't know anything about the book release. In an email, she also noted that Martin is working really hard to finish this project. Johnson also added that they will publish the book as soon as he finishes writing.
While some reports predicted that the book will come out by the end of the year, new reports have surfaced claiming that it will not arrive until 2017. According to Vine Report, Martin admits to being a slow writer, suggesting that the book is still in the process and not finished yet.
The writer also shares that on some days when he is creative, he is able to naturally write and progress. However, on some days, he suffers from a writer's block and is unable to proceed. On those days, Martin reads and responds to his emails.
Meanwhile, in another report, it was pointed out that "The winds of winter" will not be featured at the upcoming Worldcon. In fact, Martin has already clarified that the fans should not expect any announcement about the book on this event. While it has been confirmed that the book will be a no-show at Worldcon, fans are still hoping at least hear Martin read another one of his chapters from his book. Rumor has it that Martin will perhaps read a chapter on Cersei.
