The shooting of the drama "Legend of the Blue Sea," starring Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun, began in Goesan County. The upcoming SBS drama will be directed by Jin Hyuk based on a script penned by "My Love From The Star" screenwriter, Park Ji-Eun.
The story of "Legend of the Blue Sea" revolves around a county judge, Kim Dam-Ryung, who released mermaids into the sea. The mermaids were then later caught by a fisherman.
Filming for the drama began Aug. 19, Friday, at Goesan, North Chungcheong Province, South Korea. Since the drama's content involves exotic coasts, the filming will move to the island of Palau later this month and on multiple locations around Spain in September.
"Today marks the beginning of the partnership between two talented and amazing actors like Jun Ji Hyun and Lee Min Ho," the production staff stated to Soompi. "Please look forward to their chemistry."
The "My Sassy Girl" actress has been cast to play Sim Chung, a mermaid who is struggling to adjust to a human life in Seoul, while "The Heirs" actor is slated to play his first dual role in the drama.
In the Joseon Dynasty, Lee will play the young man, Kim Mu, who comes from a noble family. In the present time, he will transform into a cold-hearted rascal, Heo Jun-Jae, who poses as a businessman, lawyer or doctor to trick others.
In a sit-down interview with Drama Fever, Lee revealed the factors why he chose to star in "Legend of the Blue Sea." The upcoming 20-episode drama marks his small-screen comeback after three years.
"I think this will be a series that has an appropriate amount of fantasy," said Lee. "Since the drama contains elements that are universally acknowledged, I think that this project will give off a more familiar feel to the viewers."
Other stars will include actors Lee Hee Joon, Park Hae Soo, Lee Ji-Hoon, Moon So-Ri, Shin Won-Ho and Shin Hye Sun. The upcoming SBS drama has been getting attention for both its A-list cast and the director's hit previous dramas, which include "Master's Sun" (2013) and "City Hunter" (2011).
