Recent rumors had suggested that the Android 7.0 Nougat update would be released on Aug. 22. The rumor has come true has Google has finally released the Android 7.0 Nougat update to a slew of Nexus devices.
The Android Nougat OTA update is now available for devices like Google Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 5, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One). Starting from today, the Android 7.0 Nougat update be released over the next several weeks for the above mentioned devices.
The devices that belong to the Android Beta Program such as the Xperia X Performance will also be receiving the final version of Android 7.0 Nougat update soon, Android Developers blog reported. The LG V20 that will be announced on Sept. 6 will be the first non-Nexus smartphone to come preinstalled with Android 7.0 Nougat OS.
The first developer preview of the Android 7.0 Nougat was released in March. Since then Google had released developer preview editions in each month. The fifth and the last preview edition was released in July. And now, the Android 7.0 Nougat update has been officially made available to Nexus devices.
The Android 7.0 Nougat brings plenty of new features and improvements such as plenty of new emojis, customization to Quick Settings controls, multi-window, direct reply to notifications, VR Mode and more. According to the official Android Google blog, the Android N OS includes more than 250 major features.
In the previous week, LG had begun had released the limited preview version of Android 7.0 Nougat update to the users of LG G5 in South Korea. Hence, the LG G5 is speculated to be one of the first devices to get Android N update.
HTC is likely to soon begin the roll out of Android 7.0 Nougat update to its smartphones such as HTC 10, HTC One M9 and HTC One A9. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has been officially confirmed to receive Android 7.0 Nougat within two to three months.
In the previous years, Google had always followed the trend of releasing the new version of Android through new Google Nexus devices. However, it has begun the Android 7.0 Nougat roll out before announcing the Google Nexus 2016 smartphones.
Hence, fresh speculations indicate that the Google Nexus 2016 release date will be set at the end of this month. It is likely that Google may want to unleash its Nexus 2016 Marlin and Sailfish smartphones before the iPhone 7 release date in September. However, other Google Nexus 2016 rumors indicate that both the upcoming Nexus phones will be announced in October.
