Newly-promoted side CD Leganes (1-0-0, 3 points) will try to carry over the momentum of their opening day win in the team's 2016-2017 La Liga season Week 2 encounter versus powerhouse club Atletico Madrid (0-0-1, 1 point) at their home stadium of Estadio Municipal de Butarque this Saturday, Aug. 27.

Leganes, who were one of three teams promoted to La Liga this season, pulled off a historic first win during the club's first game ever in the Spanish top flight competitions with a 1-0 victory over Europa League qualifiers Celta de Vigo on the road at the Estadio Municipal de Balaídos on Monday, Super Sport reported.

Defender Victor Diaz provided the lone and winning goal of the match at the 75th minute for head coach Asier Garitano off an assist from striker Darwin Machis, who himself just missed a header that would have been the opening goal of the match a minute earlier.

The single goal was enough for Lega to turn back a tough challenge from Os Célticos, who seemed like they are still adjusting to their attacking patterns in their first La Liga game without forward Nolito. Nolito joined English Premier League side Manchester City during the preseason.

Los Pepineros joined the Spanish top flight after placing second in the Segunda Division last term.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid started off their campaign this season with a disappointing 1-1 draw with another newly-promoted side, Deportivo Alaves, at their home field of Vicente Calderón Stadium on Sunday, as per ESPN.

The match was scoreless for the full 90 minutes until both sides netted a goal each in injury time as the game still ended in a stalemate.

Newly-acquired Los Colchoneros Kevin Gameiro, who filled-in for the injured Antoine Griezmann during the match, finally broke the deadlock three minutes into stoppage time while Alaves team captain Manu Garcia found the equalizer two minutes later to salvage the draw against last season's Champions League runners-up.

Head coach Diego Simeone's men are expected to redeem themselves from their lowly showing during their opening match even without Griezmann in their lineup.

The predicted result is a 2-0 victory for Atletico Madrid.
