Many characters returned to the sixth season of the HBO's "Game of Thrones" much to the surprise of the series' fans. It was recently reported that there were some unbelievable reasons behind this twist.
It turned out that that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were so impressed by the actor Rory McCann's performance as Sandor "The Hound" Clegane that they felt it pivotal to bring him back to the show.
They claim all this comes down to casting. "I doubt we would have cared nearly as much for the Hound if anyone but Rory McCann was playing the part. What's been exciting is seeing the glimmers of humanity behind The Hound's scarred exterior. And then seeing him shove aside those glimmers, when necessary, and murk motherf-ers that need to be murked," the Deadline quoted them saying.
Prior to the sixth season, the Hound was last seen losing in an epic battle to Brienne in the fourth season. At that time many viewers assumed that his demise was due to the injuries. When it was revealed that he is actually alive, some of the book readers claimed that they knew he would return, the Daily Caller reported.
The showrunners have done a great job in carefully developing Hound's character over the years and fans too were quick to respond immediately to the actor's precise and measured performance. In real life too, McCann is a man of few words — a stark similarity to his character. How ever, the 47-year-old actor does have something to say about his return to "Game of Thrones". The Hound said he was just left there on the mountains, all on his own. That might come across as a shock to a lot of people as they all thought he was dead. He said he was sure there will be a lot many saying 'I knew it, I knew it' as the Hound is quite hard to kill.
Many fans are happy to have the character of Hound back in action.
The seventh season of "Game of Thrones" is set to return to HBO in summer 2017.
