It added that the study was performed in England and it provided evidence that preventative treatment of HIV is very effective in the real-world setting. This reveals that pre-exposure to Truvada, an HIV drug, reduces the risk of infection by approximately 86 percent in MSM (men-who-have-sex-with-men).

The Daily Mail site also cited that a new study was called "a game-changer" by the experts and it recruited 545 participants at thirteen sexual health centers in England. They had been divided into two groups: one group was given Truvada right away and the other group received it one year later.

The comparison of the two groups of participants led to assessment of the pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) effectiveness in men at a higher risk of HIV infection. Out of 276 men who were treated immediately, only three of them have been infected with HIV throughout the year. However, during the same period, 19 men coming from the other group have been diagnosed with HIV infection.

Based on the report given by BBC, the research admitted that this could be the same to the pill used by women and avoid risky sex. NHS has been considering how to embrace that study.

Most antiretroviral drugs were transformed into treatments for HIV. Patients got near-normal life expectancy. Today, there are various researches conducted that show the dramatic role of drugs in controlling new infections among healthy gay men.

BBC also mentioned that the Terrence Higgins Trust charity affirmed that the use of condom prevented thousands of HIV cases since 1980s. They argued that the PrEP could be an extra weapon to fight against this infection.
