It appears the appeal of the show "Limitless" isn't as limitless with the show having been dropped from CBS' line-up. Now, fans all over the world are reeling over this loss, and are petitioning to have other networks save the show.
"Limitless" executive producer Craig Sweeney made the announcement in May through Twitter, TV Line reported. "I'm truly sad to report that 'Limitless' will not continue on any platform. Thanks to everyone who watched," Sweeney said in an official statement.
The show started with a very promising initial run, racking in stellar ratings and reviews. The Jake McDorman-starrer received an order for nine more episodes early in its debut. But the show's ratings began to plummet in the second half of the first season. "Limitless" wasn't able to recover since then.
Even Bradley Cooper, who was the star in the original "Limitless" movie, wasn't able to punch up the show's ratings to greater lengths.
Despite the decreasing rating by the end of the season, "Limitless" still received critical acclaim.
Sources said that CBS Television Studios pitched "Limitless" to Amazon and Netflix, but neither of these streaming services was willing to pick up the show for another season. CBS president Glenn Geller said that the network was discussing with potential buyers in the hopes of saving the show, but through a different platform.
However, before CBS pulled the plug from "Limitless," there was so much hope for a Season 2 renewal. Speaking to IGN, Sweeney even shared his vision from the sophomore season, saying his goal was to deliver a "complete story."
"So, we're going to make some changes to the show, but it will remain essentially -- we do find a way for it to be Brian taking NZT working with Rebecca and Boyle and a couple new members on the team, solving crimes and having fun a week-to-week basis," Sweeney shared about what he had in mind for "Limitless" Season 2.
It appears that Sweeney has a solid plan for season 2. All he needs now is a network that would revive "Limitless."
"Limitless" Season 1 averaged with a 2.4 rating among adults aged 18-49 and scored 10.4 million viewers.
