Apple is primed to take the stage in San Francisco today, Sept. 7 for its annual September event. New iPhones and a new Apple Watch are widely expected to be announced.
The event which will be hosted at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium and will get underway at 10 a.m. PDT Wednesday. That is 6 p.m. in London, 1 p.m. in New York and 3 a.m. the next day in Sydney.
In last year's September event, the iPhone 6S series, a new Apple TV and the giant iPad Pro were announced. For Wednesday's event, new iPhones possibly called the iPhone 7 and the upsized iPhone 7 Plus are expected.
The new iPhone allegedly looks very similar to the 6S, but is said to add water-resistance, a great camera and faster processor. Although it is said to be losing a dedicated headphone jack.
The larger 7 Plus is rumored to be distinguished by a dual-lens rear camera, which would be Apple's first. The new version of the Apple Watch is also expected, although it is not clear if Apple will call this Apple Watch 2, the next generation of its wearable device that's rumored to add GPS support and a better battery.
New MacBooks, mostly the MacBook Air lineup is due for a refresh, but so far it does not look like Apple will be showcasing these at the event.
According to Apple, the event will be streamed online for fans to watch. In a note released by a well-connected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, in addition to the very useful feature for photo fanatics, iPhone 7 will have four LED flash lights, up from two in the iPhone 6s.
In addition, the new research note issued on Saturday noted that two of these LEDs will be in cool colors, and two in warm colors, and Apple is also expected to add an ambient light sensor to the iPhone 7.
Despite the iPhone 6s ' camera is been widely praised, it still struggles to take clear photos in low-light situations. These improvements should theoretically improve image quality, Mirror reported.
It is not yet clear whether the new features will be experienced on the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 or just the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, which is also expected to have a dual-lens camera which is capable of taking SLR-quality photos.
Either way, Apple is clearly improving up its photography capabilities in the face of growing competition from the likes of Samsung, Sony and Huawei.
The iPhone 7 will come in 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options, eliminating both the 16GB and 64GB tiers, according to Kuo.
The smartphone will feature the same "True Tone" display technology the company unveiled earlier this year on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, and will come in five colors - silver, gold, rose gold, dark black and "piano black".
The glossy piano black variant could be less in availability, so Apple is expected to focus on large-storage models for that shade.
The iPhone 7 is expected to be unveiled at this year's Apple event in San Francisco today.
