Samsung Gear S3 vs. Gear S2 specs comparison: Gear S2, Gear Fit2 receive huge discounts

Let's take a look at the features of Samsung Gear S3 and Gear S2.

On September 1, the electronics company Samsung announced the smartwatch - the Gear S3. The smartwatch will be available in two versions - Samsung Gear S3 Classic and Samsung Gear S3 Frontier.

Both the wearables have similar specifications.

Samsung's Younghee Lee said that Gear S2 gained meaningful progress in the watch category with a versatile rotating bezel and a personalized watch face that provided an intuitive smartwatch experience. With the Samsung Gear S3, they expand their Gear collection and introduce a great watch.

Lee further said that with elegant design and smart capabilities, the Gear S3 marks an important addition to their smartwatch portfolio.

The Gear S2 Classic measures 39.9mm x 43.6mm x 11.4 mm and the Gear S2 measures 42.3mm x 49.8mm x 11.4 mm. The Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier measures 49mm x 46mm x 12.9 mm.

The Gear S3 Classic weighs 57 g and the Gear S3 Frontier weighs 62 g. On the other hand, the Samsung Gear S2 weighs 47 g and the Gear S2 Classic weighs 42 g.

The bezels of the Gear S3 and the Gear S2 are composed of durable stainless steel. The screen of the Samsung Gear S2 is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 and the screen of the Samsung Gear S3 is protected by Gorilla Glass SR+.

The Samsung Gear S2 sports a 1.2-inch AMOLED screen with 360 x 360 pixel resolution. The Samsung Gear S3 sports a 1.3-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. The rotating bezel is present in the Samsung Gear S3.

The Samsung Gear S3 has a 380 mAh battery and according to reports it offers four days of usage. The Samsung Gear S2, on the other hand, has a 250 mAh battery that offers three days of usage.

The Samsung Gear S2 and the Samsung Gear S3 run on Tizen operating system. The watches are compatible with Android phones. Furthermore, Samsung has announced its plan to make Gear S3  as well as Gear S2 compatible with Apple iPhones. The tech company is working on an iOS app.

The Gear S3 as well as the Gear S2 are available with GPS connectivity options. The Gear S2 variants are available in 3G cellular data-enabled variants. The stand-alone data is not available in the S3 Classic.

The Samsung Gear S3 frontier comes with built-in 3G/LTE connectivity that will enable owners to receive and make phone calls.

The Samsung Gear S2 and the Samsung  Gear S2 Classic cost $300 and $350. At present, there is no information on the prices of the Gear S3 models.

Meanwhile, Samsung Gear S2 and Gear Fit2 have received huge discounts. At present, Amazon is selling Samsung Gear S2 Classic for $292. The Samsung Gear S2 Classic Platinum and Rose Gold are available for $399.

The retailer is also selling Samsung Gear Fit2 for $149.
