Ark: Survival Evolved has recently seen its first DLC in the form of Scorched Earth and it left a sour taste on the players' mouths as they complained that it was a bad move for the developers.
Now, Studio Wildcard is responding to the outcry regarding the Ark: Survival Evolved DLC. The developers said that the Expansion Arks are part of their strategy to get the game rolling.
Scorched Earth DLC for Ark costs $20 and that could be too much for some players considering that some games already cost the same as most games in the market. The release of the expansion pack did not sit well with many of the fans who wanted the game finished and instead got the DLC.
Studio Wildcard said in a blog post that they have determined that the move is better during the Ark: Survival Evolved Early Access instead of after the retail launch, VentureBeat has learned. They added that the early reveal of the expansion means that they can easily integrate more DLCs in the future based on the feedback and possible technical problems that may arise.
"Our original vision for Ark always included the creation of Expansion Arks, along with the infrastructure and technical systems to transfer data dynamically between live Arks," Studio Wildcard said in their official blog post.
The Ark: Survival Evolved Early Access page on Steam is already filling up with negative user reviews regarding the developers' decision to launch the paid Scorched Earth DLC. One user even asked why Studio Wildcard is getting greedy instead of focusing on the glaring problems and bugs on the current build of the game.
Studio Wildcard said that the early release of the Ark: Survival Evolved DLC means that they already have systems in place to support other future Expansion ARKs, Digital Trends reported. Besides that, they do not really seem to have a solid explanation or defense against the comments about them being greey.
Ark: Survival Evolved is still in the Early Access stage in Steam and has been since 2015. The game is expected to be finished this 2016 and will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PCs.
