Niantic Labs will finally release the Pokémon GO Plus wearable on September 16 across the globe after several months of being delayed along with the game's rollout itself.
Players will finally be able to grab the Pokémon GO Plus wearable next week after the original July release date was pushed back due to the difficulty in releasing the game globally. Interested buyers should know that the accessory costs $34.99 alone but it could help players overcome some problems in the AR game.
The wearable does not have any flashy design and just looks like a melted Pokéball. It is compatible with both the Android and iOS version of Pokémon GO when it finally launches, Polygon has learned. Niantic said that they will launch the wearable "in most countries" but they have not specified which ones they refer to.
With the help of the wearable, players will be able to "play" the game even without their smartphone screen turned on. It will notify the players whenever there is a Pokémon nearby or if they are approaching a PokeStop.
Amazon and Gamestop still have no stocks for the Pokémon GO Plus wearable because of all the pre-orders in the past few months, The Verge reported. Niantic has also recently announced that a Pokémon GO version will be rolled out for the Apple Watch.
All of the hype for the game seems to have subsided as Pokémon GO players continue to decrease every day. The permanent bans certainly did not help but it did keep the experience good for most of the loyal players.
Niantic could be hoping that the release of the Pokémon GO Plus wearable and the Apple Watch version spike more interest for the AR game. The device will certainly help players avoid snatchers and possible danger on the road as their eyes and attention would not be glued to the smartphone screen anymore.
Smartphone users will also save more battery by using the Pokémon GO Plus wearable's Bluetooth connection instead of having to turn on the screen itself. Of course, the mobile data will still need to be turned on and that could still kill the battery life in the long run.
