A video of singer IU, whose real name is Lee Ji-Eun, singing for SBS's "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" production team is making the rounds on social media. The video, which was published on YouTube, shows the 23-year-old star singing Lee Moon-Se's "When Love Passes."
The 2-minute video begins with the singer-turned-actress anxiously looking up the lyrics on her phone, as the staff member cheer on her. After a few failed attempts, IU holds a fork like a microphone and begins singing for the staff sitting around her.
In spite of the rough start, IU showcases her sweet and delicate voice. The video was taken by one of the drama's staff during a post filming rounds of drinks on Aug. 15, The Kpop Herald reported.
Currently, IU portrays Hae Soo in SBS' "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo," a Korean remake of the Chinese television series "Scarlet Heart" (2010-2011). She is the love interest of the 4th Prince, Wang So (Lee Joon-Gi), who makes other people tremble with fear and the shrewd and ambitious 8th Prince, Wang Wook (Kang Ha-Neul), who dream of becoming a king.
The 20-episode historical drama marks IU's comeback to the small screen after wrapping up KBS 2TV's "The Producers." At the "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" press conference on Aug. 19, director Kim Kyu-Tae cannot stop praising IU's performance in the historical drama.
Speaking before a predominantly Korean crowd, director Kim stated IU will surely receive tremendous praise for her acting and passion. He then admitted that the singer-actress energy on the set surprised him.
"She really did a good job of embodying her character," Soompi quoted director Kim as saying. "Her artistic sense, ability to analyze the story and account for the acting details and chemistry with other actors are truly exceptional."
"Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" premiered on Aug. 29. The drama also stars Hong Jong-Hyun as 3rd prince Wang Yoo, Yoon Sun-Woo as 9th Prince Wang Won, Byun Baek-Hyun as 10th Prince Wang Eun, Nam Joo-Hyuk as 13th Prince Wang Wook (aka Baek-Ah), and Ji Soo as 14th Prince Wang Jung.
