Prior to Nexus devices' showcase of the newest Android 7.0 Nougat (Android N) operating system update last month, recent reports lean on Android-powered Samsung devices to get their very own upgrade, as the new operating system is already undergoing modifications to ensure compatibility to these devices.
According to Christian Today, pertinent sources suggest that the first batch of upgrades for the Android N Nougat OS should start by the fourth quarter of 2016, which means that these updates will be during October, November, and December. Based on the South Korean tech giant's historical pattern, the Android 7.0 Nougat will likely get to Samsung devices in early 2017.
Android Authority reported that there was a five-month timeframe between the Android 6.0 launch on Sept. 29, 2015 and the first U.S. update to Marshmallow with the Verizon Galaxy Note 5 on March 3, 2016. As such, it is possible for Galaxy owners to anticipate the Android N update until late February or early March 2017 for the first Samsung update.
Furthermore, it has been revealed that Samsung will have the Galaxy Note 7 as its pioneer device to run the Android 7.0 Nougat Update once the OS is released to Samsung devices, while the Galaxy Tab 2 is rumored to get an update in the second quarter of 2017.
As of now, T-Mobile has already listed the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S7, and Galaxy S7 edge in its roster of devices currently being prepared for an update; though, currently, the devices is labeled as being under "Manufacturer Development."
The Android N has several new features including multi-tasking and split screen functionality, a quick switching mode, customizable quick settings, and a "do not disturb" setting. It also highlight its main selling point that it can give the users the capability to run two apps at the same time, which eliminates the need for users to flip back and forth between apps using the "recent apps" button.
As of now, Android 7.0 Nougat is rolling out to the Nexus 6, 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 9, Pixel C, Nexus Player, and Android One devices via OTA (over-the-air).
