“Descendants of the Sun” was a breakthrough for South Korean actor Jin Goo who was cast as Sergeant Major Seo Dae Young. When the blockbuster drama ended in mid-April, there were unconfirmed reports that because of the very busy schedules of lead stars Song Joong-ki and Song Hye Kyo, Jin Goo and Kim Ji Won would possibly be the lead stars for season 2.
Although a lot of speculations swirl around season 2, KBS has not announced yet definite plans about the show. However, MBC will launch a new drama, "Illumination" with Jin Goo in a key role, according to BH Entertainment, the actor’s label. AllKpop reported that Jin Goo will play the role of Park Gun Woo, the son of the CEO of the Moon Jin Group. The female lead role has not been cast yet.
Jin Goo’s acting debut was in the SBS drama "All In" in 2003. The drama starred Lee Byung-hun and Song Hye Kyo. While the actor got wide media attention for his portrayal of Lee’s childhood character, Jin Goo’s presence was weak throughout his 14-year acting career, Yonhap noted in an article in March.
However, “Descendants of the Sun” opened new doors for the 35-year-old actor who admitted he was very elated to get such a hot response for the first time.
But he is not new to awards, having won the Best Supporting Actor at the Grand Bell Awards and the Blue Dragon Film Awards for his role in 2009 movie “Mother.”
